Fifth Blog
OK my students we are winding down the semester. Here is your 5th blog for the class.
WC
1. You are to go unitedstreaming.com and type in "Dark Passages". This video will give you a little more insight into the slave trade and its impact on Africa. You are to write a one page summary about the video. Please be specific of the details. Due on Wednesday
2. I want you to go to google and look up the pros and cons of African colonization. The BBC has a great website into the history of colonization of Africa. The web address is http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/africa/features/storyofafrica/forum5.shtml. I suggest that you write down 10 positives and 10 negatives. You can also use your book. Be ready to discuss them next week. Due on Tuesday

Fourth Blog

I am trying a different approach to class for the last few days. I believe that the best way that you can learn is from each other. Sooo...each person will have to to find information on any significant event or person of Hispanic origin from 1950 to present. I would like your you to report on what that event was or person did and how does or did it impact Hispanic society. In other words, what have Hispanic people been doing for the last 60 years. Remember to answer the questions, who, what, when, where, why and how. Be ready to report on Monday. You will have class time on Friday.

Third Blog
O.k. students, this is your third blog for this class. Please be aware that midterm is coming up very quickly. If you are getting an A or B, keep up the good work. If you are getting a C through F, see what you can do personally to get that grade up. Updated grades will be given out next week. The students have clearly changed in their attitude toward a variety of things like violence. Why, then, does the student do nothing in Diary 56?

What effect does The Color Purple have on some students?
What are some of the things that have influenced these students’ lives?

Discuss the different reactions to silence in this semester.
How do the students react to the assignment to write about events that changed their lives? Why does this assignment make them react so strongly, especially given their experiences thus far?

Good morning, afternoon or evening class. I am very pleased with the responses so far from the blogs. Keep up the good work. Your next blog assignment is located below. Please read the directions carefully. Email me your responses. Have a great holiday weekend.
World Cultures (WC)
1. Go to the following website http://www.cba.uni.edu/buscomm/InternationalBusComm/world/asia/index.html
2. You are to go to the Asian section, pick a country (doesn't matter which one) and read on the social graces of that country. They are divided up into various sections. List 10. Next go to either the South American or European section, find a country and do the same as with the Asian country. Make sure you list 10. Then I want to take one of those countries that you picked and then compare it to American social graces.
3. For example Column #1 Russia Column #2 France Column #3 Russia vs. the U.S.
4. Make some notes for yourself because you may have to report to class for discussion on Tuesday.
Cultural Tapestry (CT)
1. I would like for you to read on line articles on Affirmative Action. You can do a standard google search. I would like for you to list both the positive and negatives of affirmative action in your own words. ( Please list a minimum of 5). I would also like your opinion on the subject as well.
2. I want to also watch t.v. this weekend and I want you to write down or count the number of sexist images that you see on t.v. and describe them. Don't email this to me but have it ready to discuss on Tuesday.

Welcome to Mr. Bradford's Class
Good morning or afternoon class, I hope this year will be an exciting and worthwhile class for you and I. The purpose of this blog is to give me a chance for immediate feedback on your progress in class as well as for class assignments. I will divide the blog up between World Cultures (WC) , Cultural Tapestry (CT) and American Studies (AS). You will be asked a question, comment or suggestion pertaining to what has been discussed for the week. It will be posted on a Thursday/Friday and you will need to respond by Monday.
